Fundraising, Awareness and Advocacy
Surrey Choices is thrilled to have raised over £2100 for Action for Carers Surrey, and to have helped spread awareness about advocacy and advice services for Carers in Surrey. Actions for Carers Surrey provided online training to our colleagues on how to best support Carer and families. The training included how to have sensitive conversation, how best to support someone and the best places to signpost someone.
Several people who are supported by Surrey Choices took part in sponsored exercises to raise money for the cause, also supported the fundraising efforts. From cycling 100km to completing 2000 jumps on a trampoline, the members of the group persevered and between them raised £186.
Patrick Allen, Community Support Worker, who raised over £590 through his 25km sponsored swim over several months last Autumn, spoke about his experience:
“The experience has been life changing. Firstly, my health has improved. I have previously struggled with asthma but now my lung capacity has increased. Secondly, the confidence and communication skills I have learnt through approaching people for sponsorships has been life changing, especially when so much of the time I have had such a positive reception. I really would encourage anyone who is thinking of fundraising but unsure to remember that every challenge starts with a small step and before you know it you have achieved your goal”
Surrey Choices is grateful for the opportunity to work with Action for Carers Surrey and spread awareness about the challenges faced by Carers in the region.
