Richard HawesNCF Board Member


Richard is a Registered Nurse who trained at the Royal Cornwall School of Nursing in the late 1980’s and is also a qualified Community Psychiatric Nurse, he has a Diploma in Professional Studies in Nursing from Plymouth University and in 2005 completed his MBA at Keele University. Richard has extensive health and social care experience having worked in the National Health Service, commercial, and charity sectors. His previous posts include Regional Operations Director for Barchester Healthcare, Director of Care Services at Care South, and Care Director at The Orders of St John, currently he is the Chief Executive of Elizabeth Finn Homes Ltd.

With over 30 years’ experience of nursing older people; Richard believes that the core principles of care have not changed, we should look beyond the label of disability and see the person; and their hopes ambitions and desires, and find ways to help people to live in a way that satisfies them.
Richard is married, and has for many years been involved with the Scout Association. He has a keen interest in all things mechanical, and is a regular competitor in National Rally events with both his motorcycle and Land Rovers, came second in the British off road championship in 2003, won the welsh national rally in 2013, and the three nations award in 2016. He has also organised overland land rover expeditions to remote parts of the Pyrenees and Alps mountain ranges.
