Digital Social Care has recently published the success story of Heathfield Residential Home which has championed PainChek®, the recently launched pain assessment tool for people living with dementia. Heathfield, an outstanding rated 24 bed care facility for ladies in Warrington, has been specialising in EMI and dementia care for several years. They recognised that assessing pain for those living with dementia and cognitive impairments is a huge challenge due to their inability to reliably self-report pain levels.
Louise Rowley, owner of Heathfield Residential Home, said: “Residents often find it difficult to verbalise their pain and this seemed like a tool we could use to help support us. We wanted something that would confirm any concerns we had about someone’s pain levels and highlight any deterioration.”
Heathfield Residential Home has transformed its pain management processes as a result of implementing PainChek® and can now effectively identify and quantify pain levels for their residents who would otherwise be unable to self-report.
