A qualified and registered social worker, Mette has worked in health and social care with children and adults for 32 years in local authority and NHS environments as well as the not-for-profit sector. As Managing Director of Surrey Choices, a Local Authority Trading Company (LATC), since November 2018, she leads a complex organisation providing care and support to adults with learning disabilities, autism and sensory needs. The organisation has committed to a significant transformation programme focused on citizenship and community inclusion.
Prior to this, Mette held a number of senior leadership and consultancy positions across adult social care but specialising in progressive support to adults with learning disabilities and autism with an emphasis on health and social care integration and inclusion. She is an experienced board member with a particular interest in good governance and transparent leadership.
Throughout her career, Mette has been focused on innovation and practice development in pursuit of better personalised outcomes for people, e.g. through early adoption of InControl or as Self Directed Support Programme Lead for the Department of Health. Latterly, Mette has specialised in Alternative Models of Delivery and has provided consultancy to a number of local authorities considering new ways of working including supporting a number on their journey towards launching their own LATC.
Mette holds a Post Graduate Degree in Advanced Social Work Studies and is a passionate advocate for the rights of people with disabilities to live full and active lives in their local communities.
