Not-for-profit quality care for over 25 years

NCF response to Matt Hancock’s letter on cross-party talks

The NCF welcomes the announcement of cross-party talks around the future reform of Adult Social Care. The government needs to take swift action to move this agenda forward.

Vic Rayner, Executive Director of the National Care Forum says: –

“We welcome the announcement by the Secretary of State that invites members from across the House to attend cross-party talks. It is an important first step in moving forward the reform agenda for adult social care. We look forward to working with parliamentarians and officials as they begin their discussions”

Vic goes on to say;

“However, it is imperative that the government widens it’s narrative about social care to ensure that it focuses on the needs of both working age and older adults. In addition, the reform agenda needs to look ahead, to determine a social care system that addresses both the current short fall, and presents a clear and coherent narrative to develop a system that will address future care needs for generations to come. This is the number one domestic reform priority for government and it must not forsake the ambition of reform for a quick ‘fix’. The Secretary of State needs to hear the message loud and clear that social care matters to us all.”
