There are currently almost half a million older people living in residential and nursing homes in the UK today (Care Quality Commission, 2010).
The Relatives & Residents Association is a national charity which exists for the benefit of older people in residential care, as well as their families and friends left behind at home.
We support people by giving them the information they need to make confident and informed choices – whether about selecting a care home, paying for care, adjusting to being in care, or complaining about the quality of care they, or a relative or friend, are receiving.
We also speak out on behalf of a sector which, very often, is unable to speak out for itself. We do this by lobbying those who possess the authority to make changes.
We relay powerful and potent messages and push hard to ensure that standards, for vulnerable older people in care, are continually being monitored and improved.
To achieve these aims we seek to work with as wide a range of people and organisations as possible. As well as our vital individual membership and donations, we are keen to encourage corporate membership and sponsorship among residential care providers and others, both to promote a wider commitment to best practice and to help provide the funds to allow our activities to continue. Other collaborations may include joint ventures, commissions, consultancy and partnership working.
All our activities are conducted for the sole purpose of advancing our charitable aims and values, and on the basis that our independent status is not compromised in any way.
In particular, we are not to be taken as endorsing or supporting any individual care home or provider organisation and will always pursue the interests of residents regardless of whether a care home has any connection with a corporate member or sponsor of the R&RA.Address: 1 The Ivories, 6-18 Northampton Street, London, N1 2HY
