Based across 60 acres of beautiful countryside, St Elizabeth’s is a National Charity supporting children and adults of all ages with epilepsy and other complex medical conditions, the severity of which impacts upon their health, social behaviour, learning and emotional development.
As part of our offer, we have 13 purpose built bungalows to meet the health and social needs of 102 adults with epilepsy. Bungalows have between 5 – 10 bedrooms, with residents placed with people of a similar age and generally of similar support needs. Similarly, our College can accommodate up to 20 Learners, across 6 bungalows (all with access to our Health and Therapy Services) located on Centenary Close, situated on our grounds next to the College.
Much like our adult home, Residential Learners are supported by staff to live independently, and look after their bungalow by cooking, cleaning and washing for themselves. There is a strong sense of community and character within the bungalow, with many learners choosing the evening and weekend activities they host and participate in. Activities include swimming, dancing and a visit to the local night club or walking in the local forest.
We also currently occupy and hold tenancy agreements for 9 flats at Windhill in Bishop’s Stortford, all managed by the Local Housing Association. Many of the Resident who live here still access St Elizabeth’s for either College or Day opportunities, but feel their needs and interests are best met living in the community.
