Royal Voluntary Service celebrating 75 years

As we celebrate our 75th anniversary, we’ve set out some big ambitions for the future. We plan to reach 2 million older people with our work over the next ten years. To achieve our big ambitions, everyone needs to know who we are, what we do and how we help improve the lives of older people in Britain.

Research shows that the name WRVS (which stood for Women’s Royal Voluntary Service) did not reflect what we do, and hindered new people understanding and feeling inspired by our work.

‘Royal Voluntary Service’ is more easily understood; it conveys a sense of our history and belief in the power of volunteering, as one of the largest volunteer organisations in Britain. It is also more inclusive, showing that we are here for men as well as women.

Our new strapline – ‘together for older people’ – sums up our commitment to older people by keeping them feeling well, involved and valued.

We believe that ‘Royal Voluntary Service – together for older people’ is a strong identity that we can carry with us to bring together many more volunteers with many more older people in the future.

The changes to our name and visual identity compliment some changes we are making to the way Royal Voluntary Service operates. The intention behind these changes is to reach many more older people with our services.

Whether you are a volunteer or an older person seeking volunteer help, the effect of these changes should be that you have many more opportunities to be involved with us and our work.

Here is a summary of some of the most important changes:

•We are strengthening our work in local communities by working through 67 local offices who will be able to build the support they offer around what the local area needs

•We are starting to offer our services directly to older people and their families, as well as partnering with local authorities, GPs and hospital trusts. This means older people will be able to get the help they want, tailored for them

•We are adopting a more flexible approach to volunteering, because we know people have very busy lives. In the future we will talk to you about what you are interested in, and any time pressures you have, to create a volunteering opportunity that works for you and us

Overall, the aim is that older people will receive a much greater level of care through new and improved services.Address: RVS Cardiff Gate Beck Court Cardiff Gate Business Park Cardiff CF23 8RP
