Launched in 2011, Optalis were only the second local authority trading company (LATC) to provide adult social care services in the country. Today, we are one of the largest in the UK, with a team of 700 making a difference every day to nearly 5,000 customers across Windsor, Maidenhead, Wokingham and Oxfordshire.
Our service provision is both unique and extensive. We are the only organisation of its kind in the UK to deliver a full range of adult social care services, including all statutory and safeguarding functions.

Our services include:
Statutory, Advisory, Brokerage and Management services
We provide brokerage and professional support service through brokers, professionally-qualified social workers and occupational therapists, helping customer who require social work, occupational therapy, sensory needs, assistive technology and independent brokerage advice.
Community Services
We run seven day care and community services for people with a learning disability and/or physical disability and people with dementia. We offer a wide range of activities including reminiscence sessions, poetry, art clubs, out and about services as well as a variety of mini enterprises and gardening teams.
Support Employment Services
We support hundreds of people across Berkshire fulfil their potential and their goals by helping them attain and maintain meaningful employment. This award winning service has recently achieved ‘Support with Confidence’ accreditation for the 4th year running, is in the top ten performers in the UK for positive employment outcomes and has received the “highly commended” accolade for Mental Health in the Workplace award. We work with a number of employers including Tesco, Toyota, Marks and Spencer, Hewlett Packard and the John Lewis Partnership, as well as local schools across Berkshire.
Integrated Mental Health Services
We work in partnership with Clinical Commissioning Groups, Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and the voluntary sector to support a wide range of people with mental health needs. Clinical Psychologists and Psychotherapists work as part of our multidisciplinary team to delivery services across the community.
At Home
We provide a range of care and support, delivered in customers’ own homes with particular expertise in managing dementia, sensory needs and end-of-life palliative care. We also operate 4 extra care schemes providing bespoke accommodation for older people to maintain their independence with the reassurance of on-site carer support from our teams.
Home from Hospital Services
Our Short-Term Assessment and Re-ablement Teams provide a vital intermediate service, enabling customers to remain at home, promoting independence and facilitating hospital discharges. Delivered by a multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation care assistants, occupational therapists, physiotherapist, co-ordinators and others, we provide holistic support to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Support Housing and Residential Services
We provide residential care and supported housing for those with a learning disability, older people and those with dementia. Our person centred service supports customers with varying degrees of disabilities based on an ethos of education, enabling, promoting and achieving full independence.
