Celebrations are underway for a supported housing provider as their regional manager for Suffolk has been shortlisted for an Inspirational Leader Award.
Emma Warren is Area Service Manager for Sanctuary Supported Living’s services across Suffolk and Essex. The services she oversees provide housing, care and support to some of the most vulnerable people in society, including those with physical and learning disabilities or mental health needs, and those who have experienced homelessness. Emma has been shortlisted for the Suffolk Care Awards 2021, following a surprise nomination by her colleagues and the people she manages.
Emma has been recognised for her hands-on approach, creating a culture within her team which focuses on building people up – both personally and professionally – and during what has been an exceptionally difficult 18 months for all, she has helped everyone to feel genuinely valued, respected and connected.
Emma was promoted to Area Service Manager in January 2020 just before the pandemic and lockdown hit. She embraced the challenge, maintaining a positive and enthusiastic energy while supporting a diverse team of new and established managers. She fearlessly led the team from the very outset of the Covid pandemic – both virtually and face-to-face, including providing socially distanced deliveries of the PPE for all of Sanctuary Supported Living’s Suffolk services – even on New Year’s Eve!
As one staff member commented: “She is never too busy to listen to her team when we need her. She always encourages us to shout about the great stuff that we do in our services – she wants us, our residents and teams to get recognition for how hard we work and how committed we are.”
She often uses Twitter to showcase the services and the teams who work there with regular soundbites, photos of activities and videos to spread joy and spark ideas in others. She was one of the first managers in Sanctuary to share her vaccination experience with a selfie, talking openly about the process and how she felt afterwards, to encourage others to do the same.
Gemma Else, Deputy Head of Service, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Emma has been shortlisted for the Suffolk Care Awards. She is so passionate about what our teams do every day and all the Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered services in Emma’s area are rated Good or Outstanding, which is testament to that passion she brings every day.”
The award winners will be announced at the finals of the Suffolk Care Awards, which will be held at Wherstead Park, Ipswich on November 11, hosted by actor and singer Shaun Williamson, best known for his former role as Barry in EastEnders.
