At New Copford Place, the Colchester-based residential care home run by charity, Friends of the Elderly, the care team hosted a wonderful summertime BBQ and fun party afternoon for the residents to enjoy with their families, friends at loved ones.
“To make the most of the glorious weather, we decided to throw the residents a summer party outside in our beautiful gardens,” said Chelsey Leather, the Activities Coordinator at New Copford Place. “The residents and their families love all our events and knowing how much they enjoy our BBQs, it was the perfect idea for a family fun party in the sun.”
“When we host any type of party or event, we always try to ensure that there is something for everyone to take part in and enjoy,” continued Daniel Sabau, the Registered Manager at the care home. “The summertime BBQ party was no exception. We had a range of accessible and inclusive garden games for everyone to play including Quoits, Giant Naughts and Crosses, Boules, Giant Dominoes and Tin Can Alley and, alongside the delicious BBQ and refreshing drinks, the residents and their guests, enjoyed a great musical performance by singer, Sarah Louise.”
“Sarah sang an eclectic mix of songs from the 50s and 60s as well as a variety of classics from the residents’ favourite genre, good old rock n’ roll,” added Chelsey. “Sarah’s great at engaging with the residents and got everyone involved, tapping their feet and singing along, she even shared the microphone with the audience to be part of her performance and join in, she was fantastic.”
“The BBQ meal was amazing too,” said Daniel. “Our Chef served up BBQ classics including burgers, sausages, mixed salads, potato salad and sweet potato wedges plus and the residents’ favourite BBQ side dish, macaroni and cheese. However, that’s not all – he also used a smoker to create perfect and scrumptious beef brisket tacos, which everyone agreed were out of this world.”
“Hosting family events and spending time with family, friends and loved ones is extremely important for the residents as regular visits helps to keep them physically healthy, mentally sharp, and emotionally happy,” added Chelsey. “Enjoying time with family and friends also helps to lower stress and boosts brain power.”
“Everyone had a really marvellous time at our summertime BBQ party. The residents and their guests said how much they enjoyed it. It was lovely to see everyone smiling, chatting away, enjoying catching up with each other, reconnecting with old friends and even making new acquaintances. The delicious BBQ and refreshments went down exceptionally well, and the residents all agreed that it was a great afternoon and a wonderful way to spend quality time with their loved ones,” concluded Daniel.
