Welcome again to celebrating some of what we have been up to via our respective websites and beyond!
This week it’s all about…a a legend called Steve! (and Martin, Kelvin, Helen….)
What more can we say – a much loved and highly regarded person that Oaklea has supported over many years has returned to one of our Supported Living houses.
Moving home is a big deal for anyone – and as you can see from the clip from Mum & Dad….they’re pretty chuffed at how smooth it all was.
“Thank you all for making it a special day for Steve, it makes us happy to see him happy.” Mum Michelle & Dad Joe
I’m an Oaklea Celebrity – get me in here!
Moving home – it’s stressful at the best of times…
But if you’re a bit of a long standing Oaklea celebrity – well it’s all pretty straightforward – just a cut a ribbon or two!
This week we welcomed Steve back into the Oaklea family – and there was much to celebrate!
Footnote – this story garnered the most interaction etc across our social media channels this year – says a lot about what an impact Steve has had on all of us.
Make a date with cupid!
Meanwhile we’re still spreading the love (was ever thus).
Here’s a lovely tale from our very own cupid – Kirstie “matchmaker extraordinaire” Nicholson:
“Sunday night was date night for Helen and Kelvin. Kelvin pulled out all the stops and made Helen a 3 course meal! He even got the tablet on playing romantic music -what a lucky lady Helen is.”
He’s proper chilled!
Bit nippy out there Martin!
We recently celebrated National Trustee Week
Well one of our volunteer Board members at Right2Work CIC is Martin Bell from , Crosby Garrett, near Kirkby Stephen.
He doesn’t always make it to Board meetings…for good reason….he’s too busy ppppppp picking up apenguin!
He sent us these recent images from his day job with the British Antarctic Survey.
Martin says: “Im currently trying to get to Halley Station but weather not playing game. Stuck at a spot called Wolfs Fang and literally chilling waiting for weather.”
Find out more about our R2W Board (and Martin) here…
This week we took another step forward regarding Edenside.
Here you can see Oaklea Trust Chair, Chris Harris, at HQ signing important documents that progress our plans to transform the former Edenside Care Home in the Eden Valley.
Alex Wolfenden, Operations Director at Oaklea & Edenside Project Lead; “This document is the final stage of obtaining full planning approval for the project and then we can move forward into the next stage of the project which is demolition and working with the Environment Agency to provide a temporary car park for the town.”

Some of our latest Supported Internship placements have been busy in the world of retail and hospitality in Furness.
We caught up with some of them in Ulverston – well when they weren’t too busy ‘testing’ the produce or saying ’10 items or less’! It’s a true BOGOF -as we have two great venues that our young people sampled!

See you in the Woolpack!
Elswhere – The soap opera keeps on coming….
Last week customers from County Durham headed to the set of TV soap Emmerdale…Not to be outdone some of our lovely people from Ulverston have also gone channel hopping too!
Registered (TV) Manager Sue ‘Milly’ Millington in between a few scoops in The Woolpack: “Simon Rawsthorn and Alan Lamb were supported by staff members Hazel, Pam and Rebecca to visit the set of Emmerdale on Saturday. Look who they bumped into – yes it’s Cain Dingle.”
