Local Care Home Company Fundraises More Than £2,000 for Those Affected by the War in Ukraine.

Staff members from The HICA Group, a locally-based Social Care company, recently came together with their friends and families for a Sponsored Walk in aid of Ukrainian refugees. The 6 mile walk went from their Head Office at Hesslewood Country Office Park in Hessle and across the Humber Bridge and return. The walk, which was followed by a tombola and refreshments, managed to raise the magnificent sum of £2325, which they were proud to hand over to local charitable organisation Hull 4 Ukraine.

HICA CEO Terry Peel praised everyone for their stunning efforts.

Terry said: “What a fantastic result from our wonderful people. We’re proud of everyone for turning out and getting involved. We had been talking about the situation in Ukraine and it was quickly agreed that we all wanted to do something to help, and the idea of the Walk was soon born.”

10 days after coming up with the idea more than 70 people turned up on the Saturday morning, many dressed in Ukraine’s colours. Throughout the walk the public showed their support with much of the transport across the bridge beeping their horns in encouragement.

The money was presented onto local charitable organisation Hull 4 Ukraine who have been very busy ensuring supplies get sent out to Ukraine, Poland, and Romania.

Terry continued, “Hull 4 Ukraine are doing such an incredible job we were honoured to raise the money for them. We know that will ensure that the aid will arrive in the most appropriate areas. They have already sent out 15 huge trucks full of food and emergency supplies with lots more lined up to go soon.”

Joanna Borecka, who has been coordinating the logistics of getting the donations into their centre and out to where it’s needed, came to HICA’s head office to accept the sponsorship money.

Joanna said, “The response from the public has been overwhelming and HICA’s donation will make a huge difference to the people of Ukraine when it arrives. The sponsorship money will be spent on food which is what they are in the most need of now. We would like to thank HICA and all the walkers for this amazing donation.”

Not only are Hull 4 Ukraine helping with getting aid to Ukraine, but they are also helping out refugees that manage to make it here. They organise welcome events and help with clothing and other donated items along with classes in learning English.

Terry continued, “HICA are committed to continue to support Ukraine. Across the HICA Group we are establishing food collection bins and encouraging staff members, friends, and family to donate dry goods if they can. We would also like to say to all members of the public that might not be able to make the trip to the Hull 4 Ukraine centre in the old Staples building in Hull City Centre, they can donate goods at any HICA service. Together we can help the people from Ukraine rebuild their lives.
