The HICA Group is seeing the fruit of its recent investment in its accredited Future Leadership Programme.

10 employees have recently successfully completed the 12-week management development programme designed to support existing Deputy Managers and those Team Leaders aspiring to step up to Deputy Manager.

The Lead to Succeed course is partly accredited by Skills for Care, the national recognised independent charity that works as a workforce development partner to the Department of Health and Social Care. Management development is an effective way of strengthening your team and future proofing your service whilst also helping to continue to deliver the highest standards of care and support, both today and in the future.

The ten employees who recently completed the course come from across the HICA Group’s 16 care homes. They were Jessica Costa (from Albemarle), Carrie Gardner (Albemarle), Kerry Moss (Elm Tree Court), Emily Cundy (Isaac Robinson Court), Gillian Darnell (Overton House), Kelly Laws (Prospect House), Hannah Chamberlain (Raleigh Court), Thomas Armstrong (Red House), Stephen Glover (The Hollies) and Elaine Simpson (Wilton Lodge).

The programme was started by the Group’s Learning and Development Manager, Sarah Moody, who said, “This programme is just one element of the approach we are planning to ensure a well-defined career progression for our leaders of the future. We plan to develop separate programmes for prospective registered managers and for aspiring team leaders.”

The 12 week blended programme includes face-to-face external formal training and internally led sessions on key topics alongside on the job mentoring. In addition, an individual learning plans are developed to ensure the required level of attainment as prescribed by the HICA Senior Management Team.

Terry Peel, chief executive at Hica Group commented: “This is a significant investment by the organisation in staff skills and development. As specialists in dementia care we recognise our people need to be at the forefront of the best provision in the sector. We want a higher level of expertise within HICA to ensure we have the skills to train future staff.”

He added that this training programme was a key part of a continuous improvement drive across the organisation.
