Avante Home Care and Support are delighted to be the first Home care provider on the Eden Alternative register.
The Eden Alternative is the philosophy of care adopted by Avante and is based on the core belief that ageing
should be a continued stage of development and growth, rather than a period of decline. The Eden Alternative is usually seen in care homes and is a way of providing person centred care for people to continue to live their life whilst being cared for and supported, and Avante has all nine of its care homes accredited.

However, Avante not only provides care in residential homes, but also domiciliary care in people’s own homes, and so has extended the philosophy of care to include all its services. Avante Home Care and Support began their Eden journey at the beginning of the year and have since had 22 staff members attend the 1 day training or Eden Associate three day training course.

The Eden assessors visited Avante’s Home Care and
Support branches in Kent and Bexley and met with service
users, their families and staff. The report reveals the good
rapport between clients, carers and office-based staff plus
good relationships with family carers. The report also
described how clients are valued as individuals with their own needs, wishes and preferences and are involved with all matters connected with their care and support.

Other observations included, ‘Family members are valued as essential care partners, they are invited and
encouraged to be involved in their loved ones care
according to their wishes. There are Well-Being teams
that support clients to achieve their aspirations and goals and support them to live as independently as possible’.

Since the start of the Eden journey there have been a host of wellbeing activities and initiative’s implemented across the Kent and Bexley Home Care service including day trips out to the cinema, afternoon teas, shopping trips and swimming lessons, all enjoyed by clients who use the Home Care and Support service. The use of activities
like these are helping to enhance the lives of the people who receive Home Care and supporting them to live vibrant and fulfilling lives.

Angela Johnson, Head of Home Care and Support said, ‘We are delighted to be the first Home Care provider on the Eden Register. Our philosophy of care is at the heart of our care delivery and to be Eden validated across both branches reinforces what we do and why we do it. I would like to say well done and thank you to all of the Home Care team’.
