Avante Care & Support believe that life in a care home should be rich in experiences that stimulate the mind, engage the senses, and enhance overall well-being. Our carefully designed activity program focuses on giving residents the opportunity to lead fulfilling lives, with a wide range of activities tailored to meet both physical and cognitive needs. These activities not only provide entertainment and social engagement but also improve mental health, cognitive function, and emotional well-being.
A trip to the garden centre or local coffee shop offers residents the chance to enjoy fresh air, connect with nature, and engage in casual conversation. These outings help maintain social ties and offer a sense of independence and normality.
For many, simply being surrounded by nature, whether through a stroll among the flowers or watching birds at the feeder, sparks joy and mental clarity.
We encourage residents to pursue hobbies that stimulate their creativity, such as painting, music and dance. These activities are not only fun but also have therapeutic effects. Art strengthens hand-eye coordination and motor skills and creates a sense of accomplishment.
Music and dance sessions are another firm favourite amongst residents, providing opportunities for self-expression while improving mood, memory, and coordination. Whether it’s a sing-along, dance routine, or listening to beloved tunes, music brings back memories and uplifts spirits.
Physical activity plays a key role in maintaining mobility and vitality. Some residents have recently been participating in ten-pin bowling, where friendly competition encourages movement and social interaction. We also take residents out for pub lunches, offering them the chance to relax, enjoy a delicious meal, and experience the comforting atmosphere of a local pub—evoking memories of past outings and family gatherings.
We know that each resident has unique interests. For some, it might be as simple as supporting them to feed the birds, a peaceful activity that connects them with nature. For others, it’s something more personalised, like playing a musical instrument. We nurture these passions, as they provide residents with a sense of purpose, identity, and joy, all of which contribute to mental and emotional well-being.
We also recognise the therapeutic power of animals in enhancing residents’ well-being. Whether through pet therapy sessions or visits from local animal organisations, interacting with animals brings immense joy and comfort to residents. Stroking a guinea pig, cuddling a dog, or watching birds in the garden has been proved to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve mood.
By offering a wide variety of activities across our care homes helps residents stay engaged, boost cognitive function, and improve their overall well-being. Providing communities where everyone has a vibrant and fulfilling life.
