Dorchester care home resident celebrates 100th birthday

Residents at Maiden Castle House joined resident, Cyril in celebrating his 100th birthday on 16th July. The home made the most of the perfect weather by celebrating Cyril with a wonderful outdoor tea party.

Cyril fondly remembers his time as a cub Scout back in 1934 when he joined the 3rd Dorchester Scouts at 11 years old and then became leader of the 1st Dorchester pack.

Dressed with pride in his Scout uniform, Cyril was pleased to have received a birthday visit from the local Dorchester Scouts who sang to him and gifted cards filled with photos of himself and fellow Scout members, leading him to reminisce about his many years of service to the troop. The final cherry on the cake for Cyril’s birthday was receiving a card from The Queen.

Emma Norman, Activities Lead at Maiden Castle House commented: “We had a wonderful day celebrating Cyril’s birthday and achievements. When asked what’s the tip on making it to 100, Cyril replied ‘keep laughing’. The party was held on a glorious day in the gardens with a buffet, drinks and lots of cake. Cyril was surrounded by his closest family members including his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who joined in the birthday celebrations and brought not one, but two cakes along with them which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Our job is to help support and nurture our residents to help them keep living fulfilled lives and it was wonderful for Cyril to be able to celebrate his special birthday with family, friends and residents. All our staff work hard to ensure our residents’ birthdays are truly memorable occasions. Happy birthday Cyril! We hope you had a wonderful day.”

Cyril, a resident at Maiden Castle House added: “What an incredible birthday that was! I have such fond memories of my time in the Scouts and couldn’t have asked for anything more special. During my time in the Scouts, we had a lot of good Cub Scouts, and we took them on camps, put on Christmas shows and went carol singing. I remember some parents would help with district camps and we entered the carnival most years where our floats included The Old Woman Who Lived in A Shoe, Far from The Madding Crowd and sporting life.

We also did the Wedding of the Year when Prince Charles married Diana Spencer, and a Viking ship. Thank you to Emma and the team at Maiden Castle House for organising this wonderful surprise. It was the perfect opportunity to reminisce on my fondest days.”
