CQC success for Sarnes Court

Sarnes Court, a supported housing service which provides accommodation with care and support for adults with learning disabilities in South Barnet, has been awarded a ‘Good’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following a recent inspection.

When inspecting the service, which is run by Sanctuary Supported Living, the CQC considered four specific areas: whether it is safe, effective, caring and responsive. It rated Sarnes Court as ‘Good’ across the board, leading to the service retaining its overall rating of ‘Good’ from its previous inspection in February 2022. This is the provider’s first full inspection under the CQC’s new inspection framework and so an achievement really demonstrating the quality of care that has continued to be delivered.

The CQC’s report said that residents were positive about their experience of living at Sarnes Court, with residents’ comments including “I like it here” and “I would recommend it”.

The CQC inspector also noted that customers were supported to be safe, with tailored and person-centred care and support plans which reflected people’s individual needs and goals, and which encouraged them to make informed decisions about their own health and wellbeing.

The report stated: “People were supported to live as independently as possible. Staff respected people having control of their lives and the choices they wanted to make. The registered manager set out a clear vision for the service to promote people’s independence and safety.”

Samson Bello-Ayeni, took over as Local Service Manager for Sarnes Court in 2023 and in the report, it was noted that he “encouraged a culture of safety and learning at the service”. He was also a finalist for the Bright Beginnings award at Sanctuary’s Group-wide and prestigious Sanctuary Star Awards.

Samson said: “We believe in empowering the people who live at Sarnes Court to lead fulfilling and independent lives. I’m very proud of my team for this ‘Good’ rating – it’s a great recognition of their hard work, their commitment to excellence, and their dedication to supporting people to live as independently as possible.”
