Care Home Staff Spread Festive Cheer

The new normal ensured that although this Christmas was plenty better than 2020, there were still some obstacles in place, particularly in care homes, but staff at Edward Moore House Residential Care Home made sure it was special for their residents.

Christmas is more than just a day at Edward Moore House, where in the weeks leading up to the big day, Christmas spirit and festive fun fills the Gravesend care home.

As the weeks begun counting down, residents started their preparations by making some decorations, including nostalgic handmade paper chains, something we all have fond memories of making as children. The festivities wouldn’t be complete without baking, so mince pies and sausage rolls were on the menu, both proving to be a hit with the 

Residents would usually invite a live entertainer in for their Christmas Party and have family and friends attend too but with Omicron proving a concern for us all, this year it was safer to keep the party in house. But staff ensured it was special none the less, they decided to provide the entertainment themselves, singing carols for the residents to get them in the Christmas party spirit.

On Christmas Day, staff dressed up as Santa and his team of elves, they visited each of the residents, giving out gifts and spreading Christmas cheer. Of course, a traditional turkey lunch and lots of fun and games were on the cards too.

Melanie Martin, Deputy Manager of Edward Moore House said: “Our staff work so hard to make the festive period special for our residents. Activity planning continues to be tricky amidst these challenging times but the entire team have done a wonderful job of pulling together and giving the residents a lovely family Christmas.”
