Care awards recognition for Leicester disability service

Staff at a Leicester disability service have been named as finalists in the running for a prestigious regional industry award.

The team at Sanctuary Supported Living’s Skelton Court, a CQC-registered residential care home for people with learning disabilities and complex needs has been shortlisted for the Supporting Older People with Learning Disabilities Award in the Learning Disability and Autism Awards 2021.

Skelton Court was nominated for the way in which the team passionately promote dignity and respect, and give residents access to the same opportunities as anyone else. This came to the fore during the height of the pandemic, when a resident with admitted to hospital with respiratory problems. The team strongly advocated for them to ensure their communication and care needs were met, and the resident went on to make a full recovery.

On a separate occasion, the team’s dedication was recognised by an ambulance technician who complimented a Support Worker: “We go to so many jobs like this and in the five years since qualifying, this is the highest standard of care I’ve ever seen. It actually made me a bit choked watching how much our patient adored her.”

Alex Marshall, Area Service Manager, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the team at Skelton Court has been shortlisted for the Learning Disability and Autism awards. They put the wellbeing of our residents at the heart of everything they do, and it’s wonderful that they have been recognised in this way”.

The judging of the Learning Disability and Autism Awards will take place virtually on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 October, with the overall winners being announced at the awards ceremony, which will be held at Birmingham ICC on Friday 29 October.
