Brendoncare Clubs, run by Winchester based charity, The Brendoncare Foundation, is delighted to announce that they have been awarded a grant of £10,236 from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF). The grant will be used for digital coaching as part Brendoncare Clubs Community Support Service.
The grant will enable at least 80 older people to become digitally connected over the next year. There will be ‘New to Zoom’ courses for small groups of people to develop digital confidence; 1-2-1 digital induction coaching; and face-to-face digital skills sessions at the clubs.
Sam Agnew, Head of Brendoncare Clubs, said, “During the pandemic many of our members have developed new digital skills as a way to stay in touch and maintain their friendships and support networks, some of them even shared their new skills on a zoom call with the Countess of Wessex on her birthday. Being online opens up so many opportunities that are otherwise inaccessible, and we know from talking with many of our members that patient, trusted support through digital coaching is critical to being able to do this.
“Thanks to this grant from HIWCF, we are able to offer this opportunity to even more of our members, preparing them for times when face to face isn’t an option and getting online means seeing a friendly face.”
Rebecca Kennelly MBE, HIWCF Chair of Trustees, said: “We would like to thank our donors for their generosity and support for our ‘We’re All Together’ Emergency Fund, enabling us to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable local people. Funding has enabled local voluntary and community organisations to provide a range of vital projects and services for people impacted by Covid-19; and last year we awarded emergency grants worth £2.3 million to provide groceries, hot meals, medication, laptops and befriending services for those needing help during the pandemic. However, we know that the crisis is far from over and our communities still need our help as they attempt to recover from what has been an incredibly difficult time.”
Brendoncare Clubs is a well-established and trusted community service, offering a vital lifeline in Hampshire and Dorset, through friendship and wellbeing community clubs, online and telephone support and online clubs too. There is always a friendly, fun, relaxed and supportive environment where older people can meet other club members, make friends and develop strong peer support networks.
