Big Garden Birdwatch

The 43rd RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is taking place at the end of this month. This event sees keen birdwatchers across the country join in with the largest citizen based garden wildlife project ever to have taken place in the UK. Many of our residents are keen bird watchers and, if you were to walk into any Quantum Care home garden, you would likely find a bird table or two and any number of bird feeders of one description or another.

You could also bump into a bird nesting box or two, carefully located to keep any nesting birds out of the reach of cats, another animal that often graces our homes.

Residents from Greenacres, our care home in Hatfield, are keen to take part in this year’s Big Garden Birdwatch event, which runs over 3 days from the 28th-30th January and have also been busying themselves with preparing bird feed to keep the birds visiting Greenacre’s gardens well fed.

This annual event has generated some interesting results over the past 30 years, which can help provide a valuable insight into the population of different birds, highlighting those that may have become vulnerable.
