Alert to ‘new directions’

This week is National Careers Week (follow #NCW2023) – and we have been marking this by celebrating achievement among those we support and our employees…plus sowing a few ideas.

Never too young to learn about future careers…

We also start encouraging interest in young people’s possible future directions. One of our Youth Group’s had a VIP visit to Kendal Fire & Rescue base yesterday evening -an informative session seeing at first hand what a career in the Emergency Services entails.

Firefighting and the role of the Fire Service is vital to a functioning society – and our young people were guided by Lauren Strong – she would highly recommend careers in the blue light services.

A huge thanks to the great team at Cumbria Fire & Rescue – especially hosts, Crew Manager, Craig Pendrey and Firefighter Lauren Strong for such an informative tour.

We have supported young people over many years and love to see them grow…

“Inn” his favourite place

This is Archie – he used to come on Oaklea Short Breaks (more https://www.oakleatrust.co.uk/short-breaks/) – now he’s a young adult and making his way into the world of work – our Right2Work ‘Work & Learn’ colleagues have been supporting him – and he has now secured a job as a Kitchen Porter – find out more here https://www.right2work.org.uk/supported-internships/on-the-holme-run-to-a-job/

And there’s more – careering in…

Below you can see Ammar & Alex – again former stalwarts on Oaklea Short Breaks – and can be seen last summer at a work experience celebration at Sandgate School -they’ve got work at Castle Green Hotel.

What’s cookin’ Ammar – celebrating

“What started out as a taster day to show the students the different jobs in the hotel, led to work experience. It has been an amazing success for both Castle Green Hotel and for Sandgate School. We have had the privilege to work with some amazing people who have shown enthusiasm, eagerness, tenacity, and hard work to whatever tasks we have given them. From this, we have gained two new employees in the kitchen, who have been reliable, punctual, always willing to learn and are great team players.” Katie Collett, HR Officer Castle Green Hotel, Kendal
