This workshop is based upon insights gained since we held a popular initial webinar on social care, 5 months ago.  Please note, whether you attended that webinar or not, if you work in care – this workshop is for you and will make sense either way.

THE PROBLEM

Local Authorities spend most of their annual budgets on care (70 per cent). As our analysis found (Ending Care Extraction in the UK), much of that investment is not circulating back into the regional economy, to improve care or kickstart high quality jobs creation.

Instead, it’s being extracted as private profit.

In our first workshop, we talked about the many challenges local authorities face, but we also heard about the opportunities that forward-thinking officers and directors are seeing in their places.

In this workshop, we’ll look at alternative commissioning strategies that are built around the quality of care, wellbeing for workers and keeping money circulating through the local economy.

You will also meet, connect with and share ideas with officers from other regions

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Local authority officers in:

  • Leadership and policy roles
  • Procurement and / or social care commissioning
  • Public health
  • Economic development

Owners and finance directors of care services providers, with non extractive practices.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This practical session will:

  • Inform you about the level of extraction from the UK care sector.
  • Discuss alternative commissioning strategies.
  • Build your network with officers from other regions, who are also committed to improving care.
