Flu vaccines used in Boots stores for eligible adults 2026/27

For the 2026/27 flu season, Boots will be using the following inactivated influenza vaccines (IIV) for eligible adults, which have been approved for use for the NHS flu service and are in line with UKHSA recommendations:

• IIVc (cell-based inactivated influenza vaccine):

• • Who it’s for: Adults under 65 years in a clinical risk group, including frontline health and social care workers. Also recommended for adults aged 65 years and over
  • About the vaccine: Produced using cell culture technology rather than eggs. This can offer improved protection against the flu strains expected to circulate.

• IIVe (egg-based inactivated influenza vaccine):

• • Who it’s for: Adults under 65 years in a clinical risk group where IIVc is not suitable or not available.
  • About the vaccine: Manufactured using the traditional egg-based process and remains a safe and effective option for preventing flu.

Free NHS flu vaccinations are available for frontline workers in social care settings across England and Wales. We will share further updates regarding provision in Scotland once these are confirmed.

Our Boots Care Learning module – “Let’s Learn About Flu” – is available to support social care teams. This module offers clear, practical guidance on how flu spreads, who is most at risk, and why vaccination remains one of the most important lines of defence each winter.
