Not-for-profit quality care for over 25 years

Day 5

Today we have three more inspiring stories of care from members

How drawing on care and support has helped Jonathan achieve his travel goals at Cedamore Housing Association

Jonathan is a 28-year-old man who utilises the Shared Lives care scheme. He’s been living with the same household under the Shared Lives scheme since he turned 18. He receives direct payments to fund his own care and support, and employs a team of personal assistants (PAs) – two of them have been working with Jonathan for 12 + years. Drawing on care and support has had a big impact on allowing Jonathan to live his life how he wants and do the things he loves, including travelling around the world.

Jonathan’s love of travelling has resulted in him being nicknamed ‘Jonathan the Travelling Man’ in a video he’s produced of his travels. In the video produced by Jonathan along with one of his PAs and his music tutor, he shares an insight into how drawing on care and support has helped him to experience his love of travelling.

A specially adapted trishaw enables residents and day guests at Lilian Faithfull Care in Cheltenham to enjoy the joy and freedom of cycling. Operated by volunteers and staff, the trishaw travels along traffic-free routes, offering a comfortable seat for two passengers with seat belts. The project, affiliated with ‘Cycling without Age,’ fosters not only the cycling experience but also meaningful friendships and conversations. The unique initiative receives support from Cheltenham Borough Council, and local companies Signal and Williams Cycles, making a positive impact on the well-being of residents and day guests. Check the cycling project in action on the webpage.

BBC Points West and ITV West Country recently filmed our residents and day guests enjoying trishaw rides at Montpelier Park and the Honeybourne Line. The teams captured the benefits of the rides, conducting interviews with participants and staff. We appreciate the respectful and supportive approach of both teams. Special thanks to our guests Mike Clayton, Doreen and Ernest Rowland, and Gaynor Trott for sharing their experiences. The stories aired on local TV news and BBC/ITV social media channels.
