Skills for Care has released the latest workforce data for 2023/24. The “Size and Structure of the Adult Social Care Workforce in England” report looks at trends in workforce supply and demand. This important information comes from care providers who use the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set. The new data shows:
- In 2023/24, there were 1.84 million adult social care posts, which is 2.7% more than in 2022/23.
- 1.705 million of those were filled posts (where someone is working in that post), which is 70,000 more than 2022/23.
- The number of vacant posts decreased by 22,000 to 131,000.
- International recruitment was the main driver behind the increase in filled posts and the decrease in vacant posts. In 2023/24, 105,000 people came to the UK to work in social care, up from 80,000 in 2022/23.
- The number of posts filled by people with a British nationality decreased by 30,000 in 2023/24, following a decrease of 40,000 in 2022/23.
