Amherst Court residential home for people living with dementia, in Chatham, Kent, part of Avante Care & Support were the first home on the UK Eden Alternative CIC Register of Homes to be granted an Outstanding rating under the new CQC regime of inspection.
Outstanding care for residents means; getting to know your residents deeply in order to be responsive in providing care that meets their individual needs; building caring relationships where they feel loved and valued as people; providing an environment where they feel safe, where things are happening and they call home; giving them control over their lives by giving them choice and the ability to feel needed by helping them continue to take part in meaningful activities.
By adopting the Eden Alternative philosophy of care organisations give their managers and staff the knowledge and ability to deliver this level of high quality care. Staff are empowered and supported by education and well-led by wise leadership from their managers. This philosophy is effective in providing residents, regardless of disability, to continue to have life worth living and to continue to grow and to enable staff to continue to grow and enjoy their work.
Congratulations to Amherst Court staff and residents who have successfully demonstrated to CQC that Outstanding care can be achieved by adopting the appropriate philosophy of care.
