Brunelcare care home excels in latest CQC report

8 February 2019

Brunelcare’s Glastonbury care home has been rated overall by Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’, with ‘Outstanding’ in the domain of caring

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) carried out an unannounced inspection 18th December 2018 of Brunelcare’s Glastonbury care home, awarding an overall rating of Good, including an Outstanding rating once again for the domain of caring.

The published CQC inspection report states:

“At the last inspection we rated this section [caring] as outstanding because of the person-centred and compassionate culture which staff created. Staff encouraged people to make and maintain friendships and promoted a family type environment where everyone was respected and cared for. At this inspection we found the extremely caring culture continued and the staff and management had built on this to make sure people continued to feel valued and had opportunities to express themselves.”

During the inspection someone visiting the home that day told the CQC:

"I would certainly recommend the place. I am trying to persuade a friend to come here."

A resident commented:

"It's like being in my own home. Everyone loves everyone else. The staff take a lot of trouble to look after you."

The charity’s Glastonbury care home provides 64 rooms, purpose built to provide 24/7 nursing and specialist dementia care. Split into four ‘houses’, the home specialises in end-of-life care. The home has also been awarded a national accreditation award for its end of life care by the ‘Gold Standards Framework’; receiving a Platinum rating, the highest rating given by the Gold Standards Framework.

According to the CQC’s website, there 37 registered care homes in Somerset that provide nursing care and Brunelcare’s Glastonbury care home is the only home with an overall rating of Good with an ‘Outstanding’ in any CQC domain.

Joanna Crago, Manager for Brunelcare’s Glastonbury care home says:

“The care home team strive to create an inclusive environment for everyone here. We provide all those we care for with an outstanding service. I could not be happier to share with you the results of our latest CQC inspection achieving outstanding in care, with an overall rating of good. Congratulations to all of our employees for their dedication and team work for we could not have achieved this without them!”
