The Royal Hospital is a uniquely placed institution; being part of both the Army and Care communities, which means that in the spirit of the ‘Linking Communities’ theme, RHC brought together various different charities and representatives from across these sectors. Specially invited guests and dignitaries from the local community were in attendance to experience and celebrate the great work that we do together.
Care Home Open Day 2018 at the Royal Hospital was our biggest yet, with a varied schedule of events, spread across the Hospital’s grounds. Guests were granted rare access to part of the MTI, with a series of guided tours being offered on the day from our Director of Health and Wellbeing, Professor Deborah Sturdy OBE, as well as a special opportunity to trial some of the dementia-friendly equipment in use by residents. Other activities on offer included swing dancing and pottery workshops, as well as outdoor games and live music.
Speaking before the event, Professor Sturdy said: “We are delighted to be bringing together our military and care community neighbours in celebrating Care Home Open Day 2018. This is a unique opportunity to celebrate our military heritage and share the developments in care at the home of the Chelsea Pensioners.”
