Residents, staff and volunteers at The Abbeyfield Society’s Grace Muriel House are celebrating after being rated Outstanding by the CQC.

The service, which provides residents care for up to 37 older people, received four out of five Outstandings following an inspection in November 2017.

Keith Faulkner, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Abbeyfield St Albans, said: “In a word, it’s fantastic! We are all, our staff, our volunteers and our residents, absolutely delighted with the rating.

The CQC noted that people received “exceptionally personalised” care with staff paying attention to detail and demonstrating “pride, passion and enthusiasm for the people they supported”.

The report added: “Without exception, people, their relatives and health care professionals told us the staff were extremely caring, kind, attentive and dedicated in their approach and this was evident to them throughout the inspection.”

Annette Gibbons, registered manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission. I am very proud that our team has been recognised for the excellent support and care they provide. The whole team, not just the care staff, are incredibly passionate and caring, and will always go the extra mile to ensure residents and their families are at the heart of all that we do.

“Grace Muriel House has been part of the St Albans community for nearly 46 years and has always strived to deliver the highest quality support and care for older people. We have seen many changes in social care over the years and have always risen to new changes and we hope to continue that into the future, encouraging more people into this rewarding career.”
